Bread Making


The children have been making bread with Stuart from the Bell Inn and many have asked for the recipe.  Stuart has kindly sent the recipe for you to try out at home.

Recipe and method for white bread

 

This can be used for flat bread, pizza dough or white bread

 

400g strong white flour

Pinch of salt

2 tablespoons of olive oil

30 grams of fresh yeast

9 fluid ounces of warm water

Greased 1lb loaf tin

 

Method

Pre heat an oven at 190C or gas mark 5 with a tray of water in the bottom (this will help the bread rise).

Sieve flour into mixing bowl.

Add salt and olive oil.

Mix the yeast and the warm water together, and mix till yeast is dissolved.

Add the yeast mixture to the flour and knead till smooth. Add a little flour if needed.

Wrap in cling film in a bowl and place in a warm spot. {An airing cupboard is the best place}

When the dough has doubled in size, flour hands and knead on a board. This is knocking the dough back - you may need to add a little flour to the dough if sticky.

When dough is smooth (after about 10 minutes), place into the loaf tin and put back into the warm spot.

When the dough has doubled in size, gently egg wash and cook for 40 minutes.

Once cooked remove from tin and place on a baking tray and allow to cool.
