Medicines in School

A short summary of the policy is detailed below.

"Parents/guardians have prime responsibility for their child's health.

The school has no legal duty to administer medication.

All medication should, if at all possible, be administered outside school hours.

If necessary, for chronic conditions, the school will keep essential medicines (supplied by parents/guardians) in school and supervise their administration.

In this case an individual care plan must be drawn up with the agreement of the head teacher.

For short term illnesses, where essential medicines need to be given in school hours, they should be administered by parents, guardians, or a nominated person, unless a care plan has been agreed.”

The school will endeavour to keep records of any medication administered by staff.
